Director System, Desktop Overlay & multiple CDNs

As our intergalactic dancing venue travels across the nexus our janitor sometimes suddenly disappears. Supposedly to get some supplies or drop off some VRD bathwater. Today they returned with a peculiar airborne device. After some tinkering from staff we have set it up as a camera such that dancers can better show of their moves and transmit their moves across the nexus to their viewers.

- Added a brand new camera system which can be accessed through the new Director Panel!

- Set the position and rotation of up to 6 cameras, all globally synced to everyone.

- Switch between the cameras effecting everyone's camera system output, allow someone else to be your director while you do your dance moves and record locally.

- Output the camera footage to your desktop screen while you are in VR so you can easily record.

- Record your footage at 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K or 8K. This also affects the output quality to the in-world TVs. The default is 720p as has been the default for all TVs in the past.

- Set a timer to automatically transition to the next camera so you don't have to manually switch!

- Lots of customisation of transition between cameras. Do you want an immediate cut, a smooth blend, or a more linear blend?

- Added a drone that flies around displaying where the camera is situated.

- The drone returns to a station when nobody is rendering the camera. (nobody watching the preview, recording or watching TV)

- It can be toggled off.

- A debug visual system displaying the positions of each camera.

- Preview TV for the camera system can be toggled off.

- Lots of optimisation to ensure the camera's are only rendering when it is relevant to minimise performance impact.

- The Director panel readjusts its position based on whether the room is small or large.

- Added a desktop UI overlay system, also accessible through the new Director Panel!

- Display the video progress bar at the top or bottom of your screen on your desktop.

- Display the video title on any corner of the screen.

- Display the camera feed on your desktop screen.

- Added a tooltip that explains to desktop users how to exit the camera mode.

- Launched our two new CDN datacenters! We now have a new CDN in Canada and a CDN in Finland. Huge shoutout to our sysadmin @Silentt. for all of this.

- The default will be our Canada CDN as this has been tested and shown to be the most stable for most people.

- As always, the instance master can pick everyone's default CDN but you can personally locally override what CDN you want and still be in-sync with others.

- Updated UI to more clearly reflect what CDN you are using.

- These servers should be more sustainable as our community coninues to grow and YouTube is starting to become more unreliable within VRC again.

- Added an option to instantly play background music as soon as the video ends as requested by @FustyLugs!

- Added lots of new loadingscreen quotes.

- Added staff peeking through the window next to the bleachers. This used to be for database contributors but has long been outdated, now we are adding our staff team there!

- Updated credits screen.

- Added some new props and community references.

- Updated posterboard.

- Updated pictures.

- The shark evolved again!

Updated the DB! Now at 6164 videos! Thank you @megumi for keeping this up-to-date and processing all community suggestions! Thank you @Silentt. for keeping our CDNs up-to-date!

v2.4.0

DanceVFX

As our community celebrates a full year of VRDancing and starts 2022 strong the venue owners got a small gift for you all.

While everyone was recovering from New Years Eve our intergalactic dancing venue stopped by at the local intergalactic repair shop.

Two DanceVFX systems have been installed in the venue, these automagically spawn particles around you as you perform your coolest moves.

This state-of-the-art system will surely amplify your cool-factor, in other words, lets fricking gooooo!

- Added DanceVFX!

- This is an asset from ShaderFes 2021 that some of you might have already seen.

- It places particles based on your avatar position and motion.

- There is tons of settings allowing you to make really nice visuals for videos or just for fun.

- Out-of-the-box the asset doesn't have a user-friendly interface, I made an interface for it that matches the style of all other VRD interfaces.

- All settings are global, the toggle for the system is local because it can be performance intensive.

- DanceVFX is available both on the dancefloor and on the cypher, they have separate tablets but only one of the two systems can be activate at a time.

- I created a few presets as examples for what is available, if you got cool settings then send me a screenshot and I'll add it as a preset.

- I added a system for resetting the pickups.

- Added a reset button for the AudioLink tablet in case it gets lost.

- Added lots of posters including a new Patreon poster.

- Added a new background mix by DJ @Anks#5500 ! Video made by @megumi#4822. Thank you both!

- Mirror upstairs now properly reflects the videoplayer.

- Removed all Christmas themed thingies, we considered keeping some of it like people requested but ultimately we prefer to keep it exclusive to that special time of the year.

- Fixed occlusion culling issues.

- Updated the DB! Now at 5859 videos! Thanks @megumi and @Silentt. for keeping this up-to-date!

Audio Occlusion & Network Optimisation

Well this turned into a huge update haha! Was a super productive week, learned a lot about audio and had a lot of fun making some new interactive systems and polishing existing ones. Enjoy!

As the end of the year draws nearer and first anniversary of the VRDancing community approaches, the dancing venue is becoming a bit more festive. The janitor bought some candy canes and bought a radio so we can finally listen to our beautiful community theme song!

A lot of maintenance was done to the building, the walls are finally no longer made out of cardboard and now properly insulate sound! We'd like to mention that: contrary to recent rumours spreading, this maintenance was performed because of noise complaints regarding dancers playing music upstairs. Nothing else...

Audio Update

- Added voice occlusion, if there is a wall between you and someone else then their voice will sound muffled.

- Cyphers upstairs are now possible without disturbing the people on the dancefloor.

- Added global admin/master setting for the strength of this occlusion, want more privacy or want to be able to hear everything? You can set it globally in the admin panel.

- Added mute buttons at both TVs, you can now toggle the audio of the videoplayer off both upstairs and downstairs, this is global. Audio fades in and out accordingly as you walk through the world.

- Added a system that plays randomised background music upon joining the world and after nothing has been played for a long time.

- @Chatmans added meshes for the intercom system and the radio!

- Tweaked all audiosources in the world to be correctly spatialised and more immersive.

- Improved all audio compression for better filesize and performance.

- The PAIN1 and PAIN2 postprocessing sets now also change your audio perception...

_ _

- A TON of network optimisation, lots of objects that did not need to be synced are now not synced, which improves CPU frametime.

- Added integration for @Natsumi's fork of VRCX, soon to be incorporated into their VRCX release! Using VRCX will then show on Discord when you are in VRDancing, what video is playing and how far you are into that video!

VRDancing CDN

As we all have noticed, an internet connection can be a bit unreliable in an intergalactic dancing venue. Our sysadmin wizards have installed some StarLink systems and now the connection is absolutely solid. This marks a big milestone for our dancing community.

Also, our janitor unfortunately lost something valuable, when found please handle with care.

Finally, please refrain from cuddling with the newly evolved shark for too long or it might get stuck.

- Launched the VRDancing API, this is our custom system for loading videos which is more reliable and quicker than YouTube. Thanks so much @Silentt. and @AO554 for all the effort!

Post Processing

After months of searching the janitor finally managed to find the lightswitch... This turned out to be essential for our dancers because the Marshallthon and SlyFest both took a great toll, causing more dancers than ever to watch movies and/or fall asleep at our dancing venue.

- Added PostProcessing in a variety of modes: darkmodes, warm/cold tints, colourgrading and some experimental ones as we figure out what we want to do with this.

- Added a filter button for recently added videos. You can now easily find the videos that were added in the latest DB update.

- Added unique keys for each database entry to allow for the recently added videos feature and other planned features.

- Reworked filter system to be able to filter on specific keys instead of only tags. (+ some optimisation)

- Switched back from AVPro backend to Unity backend for the videoplayer.
